Questions and Answers
A few myths about dog training dispelled….
I have a puppy, he doesn’t need training
Just the opposite! Socialising your puppy at an early age with other pups and people in a safe and controlled environment will give him the best start in life and ensure he is a well adjusted and obedient adult dog.
He’s only chewing/mouthing because he wants to play….
Puppies chew, puppies mouth, it’s their way of exploring the world. However beyond a certain age, this can become a real problem. Chewers can destroy your home while you’re away and mouthers can turn into biters if you have not encouraged bite inhibitions from the start.
He pulls on the lead, but that’s normal…
Yes, dogs love to pull, but do you really enjoy being “taken for a walk” every time you step out with your dog. Training a dog to walk to heel takes time, but it is possible. Large or giant breeds can be a handful for younger or not so strong family members – does Daddy always have to be the one to walk or control him in difficult situations?
My dog’s to old/silly to learn anything…
That saying about being too old to learn new tricks is definitely an old wife’s tale: dogs can learn at any age. All dogs even the giddiest ones, have got the potential to learn something – maybe not to Crufts standards but enough to turn them into well-behaved canine citizens!
I don’t have time to attend training classes…
One hour once a week for seven weeks is sufficient to give you a basic understanding of dog training principles and make you a more confident owner. You dog will get a basis for goods behaviour and you can work on this in your own time. Training classes are scheduled throughout the week, at the weekend and during the day. If you can’t find a training class to suit your schedule, please ask our staff to advise you.
What about my spouse, or my children…
All family members should ideally be involved in Training your dog. At mypetstop, we welcome all of you to participate in your training classes and there is enough room to accommodate large families.
I have already done some training with my dog, why should I do more?
If you attended a class many years ago, training methods have changed: they are more efficient and especially more humane. A refresher course may be a benefit to you and your dog, particularly if he has started “behaving badly” again for any reason.
However if you are beyond the beginner stage, we offer more advanced classes including activities like agility or flyball. Please ask our staff!
mypetstop has dog training classes for all levels and ages – please call your nearest centre to enquire about days, times and prices or complete our contact us form and we will return your message as soon as we can.
