KC Dog Success in Isle of Wight Local council submits revised proposals for dog control orders
KC Dog, the Kennel Club’s dog owners group, has worked with the Isle of Wight Council to rewrite their proposed dog control orders. The original measures were considered by KC Dog to be an overreaction to complaints received from the anti-dog lobby. The council has listened to KC Dog and its members and has removed the contentious article that would have seen dogs banned from local beaches for most of the year. The new orders only exclude dogs from beaches from 1st May to 30th September, which is in line with ENCAMS guidelines.
Another order stipulated that dogs would not be allowed within 10 metres of children’s play areas, but since these are situated in local parks, it would have meant that all dogs in the park would have had be walked on leads. This would have seriously limited dog walkers’ ability to exercise their pets and affected their welfare. Thankfully, the council has scrapped this proposal as well.
Where possible, KC Dog makes it a priority to work with councils on the issue of dog control orders, and believes that the Isle of Wight Council has set an excellent example of listening to local opinion in their proposals.
The consultation period on the new orders is currently open, and closes on Friday 28th December.
